Hi,

I am Joris Geertman, born in Tilburg in 1967 (which makes me a Kruikenzeiker at least a couple of days a year). Our family moved to Amsterdam when I was three years old and three years later we moved to Heemstede where my brother Jaap and I grew up. I went to the Stedelijk Gymnasium in Haarlem from ‘80-’86 and then started my study business administration in Groningen.

I am an avid photographer, enthousiastic sailer, over-the-hill squasher, and a hungry reader. I live in The Netherlands with my (of course very lovely) wife Florine and our two (of course great) kids Dirk and Lauren.

I started this blog to be able to share the stories and ideas and feelings behind some of my pictures (most of them can be found on Flickr btw). The reason I make photographs is because I feel the need to create and be creative as a counterbalance to all the consuming we do daily. In other words to send instead of to receive, to actively see instead of passively watch, to wonder about things instead of to assume. For me photography is looking at the world with a curious eye and seeing and capturing things I didn’t see or did see differently before and sharing this with others.

Of course our family life and other stuff will also be discussed once in a while……and I hope Flo will “put her naughty shoes on” and will try to post an entry now and then.
